Local SEO checklist for Houston-area businesses

Ten things that move local rankings in a metro as competitive as Houston, in the order we'd tackle them.
Get the foundation right first
Claim and fully complete your Google Business Profile, including categories, service areas, hours, and at least twenty photos. Verify that your name, address, and phone are byte-identical across your website, Apple Maps, Yelp, and the major directories.
Then make sure the site itself is fast on mobile and has a crawlable, sensible page structure. Nothing else works reliably until these two are done.
Then build genuinely local pages
In a metro the size of Houston, 'serving the greater Houston area' is not a location strategy. Build real pages for the communities you actually serve — Katy, Fulshear, Cypress, Sugar Land — each with specific detail: projects completed there, travel considerations, local references.
Duplicated pages with the city name swapped are worse than having no location pages at all.
Then keep reviews moving
Recency matters. A steady trickle of new reviews outperforms a large but stale count. Ask at the moment of completion, make it one tap, and respond to every review within a few days.
